Privacy Policy

In short

We collect only what the app needs to work. We show no ads, we don't track you across other apps or websites, and we never sell your data. Photos you scan are used only to produce your verdict and are not stored.

Your account

If you create an account we store your email address or phone number, or the identity Apple or Google shares when you sign in with them, together with your account ID. Sign-in is provided by Supabase. You can use parts of HalalLens without an account.

Photos, ingredient lists and menus

When you scan an ingredient list or a restaurant menu with the camera, or type ingredients, the image or text is sent to our server and processed by our AI providers, Anthropic (Claude) and OpenRouter (which runs Z.ai GLM models), to read the text and assess each ingredient. The image is processed only for that request and is not stored by us. We do not use your photos to train AI models.

Barcodes and product search

When you scan a barcode or search for a product, our server looks it up in Open Food Facts, an open product database. Only the barcode number or search words are sent — not your identity.

Location (optional)

Location is used only when you tap a feature that needs it, and only with your permission. Prayer times and the Qibla direction are calculated on your device; your location is not sent anywhere for them. The halal restaurant finder sends your coordinates or the place you search for, through our server, to OpenStreetMap services (Overpass and Nominatim) to find nearby places. We do not store your location.

Scan history

Your scan results (product name, ingredients, verdict and favorites) are saved on your device. When you are signed in they are also stored on our servers, linked to your account, so they sync between devices. Share links contain only the verdict summary you choose to share.

Purchases

In the apps, subscriptions and credit packs are sold by Apple (App Store) and Google (Google Play); we use RevenueCat to confirm purchases and manage your subscription. We receive your account ID, the product, the price and transaction IDs — never your card or bank details. We keep a record of your credit balance and how credits are used.

No ads, no tracking

HalalLens contains no advertising and no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs, and does not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies. On the web we only use the cookies needed to keep you signed in, plus local storage for your theme and on-device history.

Who processes your data

We share data only with service providers that run parts of HalalLens for us, under contract, and only for the purposes above:

• Supabase — sign-in, database and sign-in emails
• Anthropic and OpenRouter / Z.ai — reading and analysing scanned photos and ingredient text
• Open Food Facts — product lookups by barcode or name
• OpenStreetMap (Overpass, Nominatim) — nearby halal restaurant search
• RevenueCat, Apple and Google — in-app purchases and subscriptions
• Our cloud hosting provider — running our servers

How long we keep it

Scan history is kept until you delete it or your account. Scanned images are not retained after processing. Purchase and payment records are kept as long as tax and accounting law requires.

Your choices and rights

You can delete your account at any time in the app (Profile → Delete account) or on our Delete account page, which erases your scan history immediately. You can also ask us for a copy of your data, a correction, or deletion by email at support@halallens.app. You can turn off location or camera access in your device settings at any time.

Children

HalalLens is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS), and access to our database is restricted to the services that need it.
