Locust bean gum
Halal
- Typical source
- Carob tree seeds
- Plain-language explanation
- E410, commonly known as locust bean gum, is a natural thickening and stabilizing agent extracted from the seeds of the carob tree. Despite its name, it contains absolutely no insects and comes entirely from a plant source. Because it is derived from a naturally occurring tree, it is universally considered halal by all major certification bodies, including JAKIM, MUI, MUIS, ESMA, and HFA. Its halal status is straightforward and never depends on the source, as it is exclusively plant-based. Muslims can safely consume products containing this ingredient without any dietary concerns.
